Altenburg & Wymenga is one of the founding members of Myllium, a newly formed international group of specialist firms within nature, climate and sustainable development. Over 400 experts from seven firms are now collaborating to innovate and lead complex projects supporting people and the planet.
About Myllium

Myllium brings together over 400 specialists to share innovation and experience in methodology, data, and technology. Nature degradation represents an existential threat, creating an urgent need for effective solutions to mitigate and reverse the impact. Addressing it requires collaboration and shared expertise to scale effective solutions for protecting and restoring nature. By combining niche expertise – ranging from ecology and landscape planning to environmental law and strategic advisory – the group provides the scale and international reach required to lead complex projects for sustainable land and water management.
The formation of Myllium also meets an accelerating global demand for advanced nature expertise. This shift is driven by evolving regulation and a growing recognition that biodiversity risk represents a material and direct impact on businesses worldwide.
A global network
Myllium derives from the Swedish word “mylla” meaning fertile ground, echoing the root-like structure ofmycelium – the network that connect many parts into a stronger whole. Altenburg & Wymenga is one of the founding members of this new network, along with Tyler Grange and The Ecology Co-op from the UK, and the Swedish firms Ecogain, Calluna, EnviroPlanning and Örnborg Kyrkander.

“By coming together as a culturally aligned collective with a shared purpose, we’ve become even better and stronger. Importantly, while benefiting from our collective strength, we’re also preserving
each independent company’s identity and entrepreneurial spirit. By pooling our knowledge across disciplines and geographies, we are perfectly positioned to support even the largest international clients in an increasingly complex environment.”“Within five years, our ambition is to become the leading international partner for companies navigating complex nature-related challenges. By joining forces, we are strengthening our ability to help companies succeed while operating within planetary boundaries.”
Katarina Walter, Group CEO of Myllium
What this means for A&W
A&W remains a leading ecological research consultancy in Feanwâlden and Amsterdam, with Frisian roots and a strong local anchoring. What we do isn’t changing, and through Myllium gains even greater meaning. We retain our identity, our leadership, and our way of working.
“We’re absolutely delighted to join Myllium. By coming together, we’re more strategically placed to influence nature and society and to achieve our ambitious five-year strategy. It will be business as usual at Altenburg & Wymenga – but even better. As it says on Myllium’s website: ‘We’re rooted. We’re collective. And it will be wild.’”
Joris Latour, directeur van A&W
Underlining their long-term commitment to this vision, the previous owners of A&W, Eddy Wymenga and Wibe Altenburg, have re-invested to become shareholders in Myllium, along with the previous owners of the other companies in the group. This ensures a stable foundation for the group’s mission to support sustainable growth for people and the planet.
